Why we don’t store your chats: there’s nowhere to put them

People often ask us where their Potato AI conversations are stored. The short answer: nowhere. The long answer is this article.

An empty shelf in a dark cellar with a single potato in a beam of light

What usually happens to your chatbot conversations

When you message a cloud-based assistant, your prompt passes through the company’s servers. There it may be logged for debugging, saved to your history and sometimes used to train the next version of the model. Even when all of this is done in good faith, the data is sitting somewhere — and it can be requested, stolen or accidentally published. An AI with no logs simply has nothing to hand over.

How an AI with no logs works

With Potato AI, there isn’t a single data centre between your question and the answer. Your prompt becomes a faint electrical signal inside a tuber, and tubers can’t keep logs, make backups or respond to third-party data requests.

  • No logs — potatoes are physically incapable of writing them.
  • No training on your data — the model doesn’t get fine-tuned, it grows.
  • No server-side history — your chats live only in your browser.
  • No backups — we checked the cellar.

The right to be forgotten, no paperwork required

Under GDPR you can ask for your personal data to be erased. With Potato AI it happens automatically: within 5–14 days the node dries out, along with everything you ever told it. No need to email support.

We don’t promise to keep your data safe. We made sure there’s nothing to keep.

What about the chat history in the sidebar?

The chat list in the sidebar is stored locally in your browser. Clear the site data and the history is gone. For complete anonymity there’s a temporary chat, which isn’t saved even locally.
